Failed boxer Ernie Driscoll (John Payne) has been reduced to driving a cab and enduring the scorn of his bitter wife, Pauline (Peggie Castle). Looking for a better meal ticket, she becomes involved with jewel thief Vic Rawlins, enraging her hot-tempered husband. When Pauline turns up dead, the cops eye the ex-fighter ,and Driscoll must track down her new lover to prove his innocence. Director Phil Karlson helms this gritty film noir.
