In 1895 London, Dr. Eleanor Bramwell (Jemma Redgrave) runs a free hospital in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods, all the while struggling against the male-dominated medical establishment while she cares for the sick and injured. Fortunately, she has the wise counsel of her father, widower Robert (David Calder), who's also a doctor. Robert Hardy and Ruth Sheen co-star in this popular ITV series.
