Community activist Tonya Neely (Viola Davis) tries to enlist the aid of architect Leo Waters (Anthony LaPaglia) in her quest to get the city to tear down the crime-infested housing project she calls home. Because Leo originally designed the project, Tonya feels his signature on her petition would carry great weight. As Tonya struggles to make life better for her family, Leo deals with his own disintegrating home life in this moving drama.
